Planning For Grade 9 Next Year

For Grade 8 Families: Planning for Grade 9 Next Year
Posted on 01/17/2022

Dear Grade 8 Parents, Guardians, and Students

As we head into the second half of the 2021-22 school year, we will be working with you to support the transition to high school for next year. As part of that process, there are some important upcoming information sessions that we wanted to share with you so that you can make informed decisions about your plans for Grade 9. As you are likely aware, designated schools for Grade 9 are based on a student's home address. Should you have any questions about which school your child is designated for, we invite you to use the OCDSB School Locator to check. Parents considering a cross-boundary transfer for a student to attend a school other than the designated school are encouraged to review the Information regarding student transfers on our board site at (Student Transfer). Please note the Secondary Student Transfer Application Period is Monday, January 31 to Friday, February 11, 2022.

Welcome to High School Information evenings: Each OCDSB school will be hosting a “Welcome to High School” session. These presentations are essential for parents and students to attend. Please see Welcome to High School Information Sessions

In addition to the evening presentations, OCV has arranged to have dedicated time for high school guidance counselors to connect with students from their areas during the school day. Sessions have been set for January 20th and 26th from 2:30-3:30 pm. Links to join these sessions will be shared with students on the day of the event.

Those students interested in other OCDSB programs may want to explore: Canterbury Arts, International Baccalaureate Program, or Skilled Trades Program at Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School  (a session will be hosted by SGSS staff tomorrow - details were sent by email to west-end students earlier today). East-end families may want to see the Ottawa Technical Secondary School website for information about their programs.

For students who may be returning or referred to specialized program classes in-person next year, additional details about the transition process will be available later this spring.

At this point in the planning process, we anticipate that OCV will again be offering a grade 9 program for those students who require remote learning. Our Welcome to High School information session is set for February 17th at 7:00 pm. Please see our web site for details. Important information about the programs available and registration process will be available at that time.
