From: Ottawa Public Health
Subject: Catch-Up Opportunities for School Vaccines
Every year, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) visits Grade 7 schools to provide school-based immunization clinics. These clinics provide access to the meningococcal, hepatitis B, and human papillomavirus vaccines. Since your child is registered as a virtual learner, these vaccines have not been available in the same manner and the pandemic has posed additional barriers to access. This memo will share ways you can access these vaccines, and as well support access to the tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (3in1) vaccine normally given to youth 14-16yrs of age through their health care provider.
If your child has been unable to receive these vaccines, there are a few options available:
OPH will be hosting community-based clinics for virtual learners on the following dates:
- Thursday December 1: Kanata Seniors Centre, 2500 Campeau Drive
Clinic hours 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Wednesday December 7: Orléans Client Service Centre, 255 Centrum Boulevard
Clinic hours 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Tuesday December 13: Confederation Education Centre, 1645 Woodroffe Ave
Clinic hours 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
At a health care provider’s office if they have agreed to offer this service.
At an Ottawa Public Health Neighbourhood Health and Wellness Hub. Please visit our website OttawaPublicHealth.ca for more information on locations and hours of operations. Evenings and weekends are available, locations and hours vary daily.
If you would like to know more about these vaccines, please visit our website Parenting in Ottawa.
Ottawa Public Health nurses are also available to discuss your child’s immunization record at 613-580-6744, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. Please note, if your child is 16 years of age or older, they need to provide verbal consent to OPH when a parent is calling OPH to discuss their vaccination record.
